Trump has held several meetings with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Dan Kinn to discuss the possibility of resuming large-scale attacks on Iran. White House security officials refer to the option as "complete mission," but Trump has chosen to pursue diplomacy instead, arguing that a return to war could undermine negotiations and reduce the chance of curbing Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump also opposes extending negotiations beyond the August 18 deadline, preferring limited, targeted strikes only if Iran violates agreements.
At the same time, indirect talks between Tehran and Washington continue in Doha, though disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program and tariffs on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remain unresolved.
