Satellite images from the COMEC shipyard on Longxue Island, Guangzhou, confirm the construction of a new auxiliary ocean escort (AOE) vessel for the Chinese Navy. The ship is larger than the current Type 901, measuring about 271 m in length, 37 m in beam, and weighing an estimated 60–72 thousand tonnes compared to the 45 thousand‑tonne Type 901.

Construction has progressed to the completion of the hull and the start of the superstructure, indicating that the vessel is intended to support the new generation of super‑cruisers under development.
