During President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the Odesa region, Ukraine publicly displayed the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) system for the first time. The showpiece differed from the Polish version, being mounted on a truck equipped with a hook‑lift loading system instead of a Yulch chassis, likely tailored to Ukrainian operational needs.
The NSM, a subsonic anti‑ship cruise missile developed by Norway’s Kongsberg, can also target land objectives. It measures about 4 m in length, weighs over 400 kg, and carries a 120‑kg penetrator warhead. During flight it uses inertial navigation with GPS in the mid‑course phase and a mid‑infrared seeker with automatic target recognition in the terminal phase.
The display marked a significant step in Ukraine’s naval capabilities as the country had not previously announced the delivery of this system.
