Ukraine has largely depleted its PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems, severely reducing its ability to counter Russian ballistic missile attacks, according to the Kyiv Independent. In Russia's latest large-scale assault, 23 ballistic missiles and 6 Zircon hypersonic missiles struck their targets, while air defenses intercepted 37 cruise missiles and 326 drones. Ukrainian officials say the shortage of PAC-3 interceptors, one of the few effective systems against ballistic threats, is the primary reason for the high penetration rate. The shortfall comes as global demand for Patriot interceptors rises and U.S. stockpiles face pressure from military commitments in the Middle East and elsewhere. Russia has reportedly increased its use of ballistic missiles against Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
