Myanmar’s navy has deployed a floating vessel fitted with an anti‑drone shield, according to images released by the military. The upgrade reflects growing concerns over drone attacks amid the country’s ongoing civil war. The conflict began after the February 2021 military coup that toppled the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. The National Unity Government, People's Defense Forces and ethnic armed groups have since fought the military regime.
By July 2026, the Arakan Army is considered the most successful opposition group, controlling almost all of Rakhine State except the cities of Sittwe and the port of Kyaukpyu. The military still holds central regions and has increased naval presence along the coast to support ground forces and enforce maritime blockades.
