China showcased its first mobile electromagnetic launch system (EMALS) mounted on a truck. The technology, similar to that used on advanced aircraft carriers, uses electromagnetic force to launch drones and light aircraft more quickly, smoothly, and accurately than traditional steam catapults. The goal is rapid deployment anywhere without needing a runway or carrier. The system could later be used to launch reconnaissance, strike, and heavier unmanned aircraft, significantly cutting mission preparation time. China has previously employed EMALS on the Jiao Yun aircraft carrier and is now expanding the technology to mobile ground platforms.
