Ukrainian company Fire Point announced the development of the FP-9, a new long‑range ballistic missile designed to strike strategic targets deep within enemy territory. The FP‑9 is larger than Russia’s Iskander‑M, measuring about 9.5 m in length and 1.1 m in diameter, with a range of 800–855 km and a payload capacity of 800 kg. Its final‑phase speed of 1,200–2,200 m/s (up to 6.4 Mach) is intended to reduce the reaction time of air‑defence systems, and the manufacturer claims up to 25 % of the missiles could penetrate dense air‑defence networks.
The missile’s solid‑fuel engine is produced entirely in Ukraine, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains. Field tests are scheduled for summer 2026, with full operational approval and mass production expected by the end of 2026 if successful. An air‑launched variant is also under development.
The FP‑9 represents a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to enhance its strategic deterrence capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
