Raytheon has been awarded a $1.1 billion contract by the U.S. Navy to produce AIM‑9X Block II Sidewinder air‑to‑air missiles, the largest contract in the program’s history. The deal covers missiles, associated equipment and software for the Navy, the U.S. Air Force and foreign military sales customers in more than 35 allied nations. Raytheon said it will raise annual production capacity to 2,500 missiles to meet rising demand. The short‑range infrared missile is also used in the NASAMS air‑defense system.
