Russian forces continue to use the heavy PM M1910 Maxim machine gun, a Soviet-era version of the 19th‑century 'Hiram Maxim', in static defensive positions and temporary anti‑drone sites. Despite being over a hundred years old, both sides in the Ukraine war have again employed Maxim guns for air‑defence missions, targeting reconnaissance and suicide drones. Their high rate of fire, reliability and abundance keep the Maxim relevant in the drone‑intensive battlefield. Released footage also shows Ukrainian National Guard mobile units training with dual‑barrel Maxim systems to increase fire volume against slow‑moving aerial targets.
