According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Iranian authorities tried to transport members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) into the United States by embedding them within the Iranian national football squad traveling for the World Cup. The alleged operation was uncovered during routine security checks on the team’s arrival.
