The commander of the Ukrainian Army Aviation announced plans to replace Soviet-era Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters with American UH-60 Black Hawks in the medium term. According to the commander, continuing to operate the current fleet is no longer viable due to reliance on Russia for spare parts. Although Ukraine has upgraded these helicopters with Western navigation systems, defensive equipment, and weapons, sourcing critical components such as engines, gearboxes, and rotor parts has become a serious challenge. Ukraine currently operates a limited number of Black Hawks, primarily used by the country's military intelligence service, but the aviation commander emphasized that the UH-60 Black Hawk will be the primary option for becoming the standard helicopter of the force in the future. Ukraine is seeking to purchase or receive refurbished and upgraded Black Hawks, with several projects under consideration.
