A new landing pad has been built on the south side of the White House, allowing the newer VH‑92A Patriot helicopters to land regularly. The upgrade is expected to retire the aging VH‑3D Sea King fleet after about 45 years of service.
The $6 million pad was constructed by Sikorsky, the helicopter manufacturer, and will replace the limited use of the VH‑92A helicopters that previously damaged the White House lawns with their powerful engines and downward‑facing exhaust.
