According to the New York Times, Donald Trump is expected to tell Recep Tayyip Erdogan at this week's NATO summit in Ankara that he wants to restore Turkey to the F-35 fighter jet program and overturn the 2019 decision to remove the country from it.

This move would require Turkey to no longer possess or use Russian S-400 air defense systems to meet U.S. legal requirements and congressional conditions. Options under consideration include transferring the systems to a third country or disabling them by removing key components.

Trump is likely to announce his intention to bring Turkey back into the F-35 program during the meeting with Erdogan in Ankara, though the U.S. Congress could still oppose the sale of the fighter jets, and no final decision has been made yet.
