Since the beginning of 2025, U.S. employment figures have been revised downward in 14 of 17 months, removing a total of 710,000 jobs from the original numbers. The April and May revisions alone accounted for 74,000 jobs, the largest two‑month downward adjustment since December. April’s figure was cut by 31,000 jobs to 148,000, while May was reduced by 43,000 jobs to 129,000.

On average, about 41,765 jobs were removed each month during this period. Applying that average to June’s reported 57,000 non‑farm payroll jobs suggests that the actual number of jobs added last month was closer to 15,000.

These frequent revisions have heightened concerns about the true state of the U.S. labor market.
