A U.S. official told Saudi network Al-Hadath that American troops will stay near Iran until the current round of talks reaches a final agreement, and a complete withdrawal depends on achieving that deal. The official noted that economic and military pressure over the past 18 months has led Iran to make concessions, describing the talks as "one of the most difficult negotiations in history." He added that Iran must demonstrate it has halted support for proxy forces and is ready to behave as a normal country.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the official claimed Iran no longer has "real control" over the waterway, noting the presence of mines in the area and expecting a significant increase in maritime traffic over the next two weeks. He also said the United States has cooperated with Iranian factions seeking change, and that hardliners opposed the agreement but offered no practical alternative.
