The Wall Street Journal reports that President Trump is weighing the option of renewing large‑scale military strikes against Iran, according to discussions with the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He has indicated a preference for continuing diplomatic negotiations for the time being.
Trump also said he is prepared to keep talks open beyond the August 18 deadline and is currently backing limited retaliatory strikes should Iran violate the existing memorandum of understanding.
