German Air Force Commander General Holger Neumann told the newspaper Telegraph that NATO would defend any member territory and would launch extensive attacks on Russian targets in Kaliningrad, the St. Petersburg region, the Kola Peninsula and the Russian Black Sea fleet if Russia attacks a NATO state. He said NATO's air superiority, backed by the air forces of its 32 members, would be a decisive factor, while cautioning not to underestimate Russia's capabilities, including Su-35 and Su-57 fighters, MiG-31 interceptors and Russian cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles. The remarks come amid reports of new shelters being built for Russian aircraft at the Chkalovsk air base in Kaliningrad.
