A LOT Airlines flight LO155 from Warsaw to Tel Aviv mistakenly transmitted the transponder code 7500, which signals an aircraft hijacking. The error was made by a pilot on a Bulgarian Electra Airways A320 that was carrying the flight. In response, a Bulgarian MiG‑29 tracked and escorted the aircraft, then the mission was handed to Turkish F‑16 fighters. Israel also dispatched two fighters over the Mediterranean.
The crew later confirmed the alarm was caused by a transponder entry mistake. As a precaution, the flight was denied landing rights at Cyprus and Ben Gurion Airport, and was diverted to Burgas, Bulgaria, where it landed safely.
