Russia is upgrading its T‑90M "Peroviy" tanks based on lessons from the Ukraine war. The upgrade adds new electronic warfare systems, increased armor protection, and a strengthened engine compartment to counter suicide drones and precision‑guided munitions.
According to Rosstok, the changes are driven by direct battlefield feedback, and the T‑90M is no longer a fixed design but is continuously updated to meet emerging threats.
Key improvements include an enhanced electronic warfare suite to jam FPV drones and protect the tank’s top and engine‑gearbox area from aerial attacks, as well as upgraded armor, active and passive defense systems, and crew safety measures to maintain mobility and survivability on the modern battlefield dominated by drones and guided munitions.
