Poland has signed a roughly 47‑billion‑kronor deal with Sweden’s Saab to acquire three A26 class submarines. The agreement also covers a weapons package, training and ongoing support, with final delivery scheduled through 2038.
The A26 submarines are designed for covert operations in the Baltic Sea, offering high acoustic stealth for reconnaissance, intelligence gathering and naval combat missions.
Saab has pledged to establish repair, maintenance and overhaul capabilities for the submarines in partnership with Polish defense industry.
Under a separate arrangement, the submarine HMS Södermanland will be temporarily lent to the Polish Navy to bridge an operational gap.
