Serbia has upgraded its MiG‑29 fighter fleet with the Chinese CM‑400AKG air‑launched missile, a move announced after images of the aircraft carrying the new weapon were released and formally confirmed by President Aleksandar Vučić. The CM‑400AKG is a high‑speed missile powered by a solid‑fuel booster, designed to strike high‑value ground and sea targets such as air‑defence systems, radars, command centres and warships. Depending on the variant, it can reach ranges of 250 to 400 km and flies a semi‑ballistic trajectory at speeds several times the speed of sound, making it harder for defensive systems to intercept. Integrating the missile onto Serbia’s upgraded MiG‑29s significantly boosts their offensive reach, enabling long‑range attacks on strategic targets. The upgrade is part of a broader Serbia‑China defence partnership that has already included the purchase of HQ‑22 and HQ‑17A air‑defence systems. The CM‑400AKG is also in service with the Pakistan Air Force.
