Israel’s parliament voted to officially recognize the 1915 events as the Armenian genocide.
The genocide was a systematic campaign to eliminate the Armenian population and identity in the Ottoman Empire during World War I, carried out by the Young Turk government.
An estimated 1.5 million Armenians died between 1915 and 1923 through mass executions, starvation, and forced marches to the Syrian desert.
