The latest estimate of the U.S. defense budget shows that the largest share goes to air defense munitions and missiles, with a notable gap from other categories. From an estimated $26.1 billion, $18.5 billion is earmarked for defensive munitions, including interceptors such as the TAD and SM‑3 systems. Only about $7.5 billion is allocated to offensive munitions, covering bombs and missiles like the Tamahawk, Jasim, and JIDM. Earlier, the Pentagon had requested additional funding from Congress to purchase hundreds of Tamahawk missiles and SM‑6 interceptors, citing significant depletion of these stocks during the recent conflict.
