Palantir is now the main developer of the Military Situation System (MSS), which has recently incorporated large language models (LLMs) to analyze thousands of reports, images and data sets. The system can track a unit’s movements over weeks or months, predict future actions and answer natural‑language queries such as which defensive systems are active in a region or the best approach to attack a target.
Initially Google was a key partner in the project, but after employee protests over military involvement, the partnership ended in 2018 and Palantir took over.
Over the past two years the user base of the MSS has roughly doubled every six months.
