Canada’s defence minister David McGuinty said Ottawa views the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) as a promising initiative and will examine the option of joining the effort. GCAP, led by the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy, aims to develop a sixth‑generation fighter aircraft together with accompanying combat drones and advanced data‑sharing systems. The remarks come as Canada seeks to diversify its arms procurement, also considering a mixed purchase of F‑35 and Gripen fighters.
