Israeli analyst Tamir Morag alleges that during the war with Iran, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) presented several plans to former President Donald Trump for a ground invasion and full occupation of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Morag, the proposals included seizing key islands such as Qeshm, Hormuz, Larak and others, as well as controlling parts of Iran's Hormozgan province along the strait to prevent Iranian interference with maritime traffic.

Morag says the operation was estimated to take six to nine months, with some assessments even predicting the possible collapse of the Iranian government by the end of that period. He does not have official casualty figures but speculates the operation could have resulted in dozens to hundreds of American fatalities. Morag claims Trump repeatedly rejected the plan, arguing that a superpower unwilling to bear such costs cannot be considered a true global power, a view he says is also monitored by China and Russia.
