The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that the influenza vaccine will again be mandatory for all new recruits in basic training of the U.S. armed forces. The decision follows a brief period in late April when Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had made the vaccine optional for service members. The return to mandatory vaccination comes after several weeks of flu outbreaks at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
