The US Air Force has released new details about a massive expansion at Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson in Alaska. The project will significantly enlarge the base's infrastructure, increasing capacity for fighter jets, support aircraft, and operational personnel as part of Washington's strategy to bolster air power against Russia and China in the Arctic and Indo‑Pacific regions.
Alaska's geographic position offers the shortest air routes between North America and large parts of Russia and Asia, making it a longstanding focal point of US air defense. The state already hosts dozens of F‑22 Raptor and F‑35 Lightning II fighters, early‑warning aircraft, and fuel tankers, and it is the venue for the large-scale Red Flag Alaska exercises.
