State TV CCTV released images showing a new version of the DF-26 medium-range ballistic missile equipped with control fins on its warhead. The upgrade is said to enable terminal maneuvers, improved accuracy, the ability to strike moving targets and better penetration of missile defenses. The DF-26 is a road‑mobile ballistic missile capable of carrying conventional or nuclear warheads with an estimated range of about 4,000 km.
The footage also displayed a new configuration of the DF-17, which carries a hypersonic glide vehicle and has been in service with the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force since 2020. The DF-17 has an estimated range of 1,800 km and can carry both conventional and nuclear payloads.
Both systems were tested during a joint drill involving China’s missile, ground and air forces in the Gobi Desert. Chinese media said the new missile generations feature greater mobility, higher automation, better precision and enhanced penetration of enemy air‑defence systems.
