Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd Air Base in Taif has successfully completed a full heavy‑overhaul of a Eurofighter Typhoon after 2,500 flight hours. The 180‑day project involved disassembling major structural sections, inspecting internal systems, conducting structural strength tests, replacing worn parts and restoring the aircraft to operational status.

Taif’s maintenance centre is the only facility outside Europe authorized to perform such extensive Eurofighter repairs, with about 80% of the workforce being Saudi specialists. Saudi Arabia currently operates 72 Typhoons, 71 of which are active across three squadrons based at King Fahd.

The achievement supports the kingdom’s Vision 2030 goal of localising defence production and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. If a planned purchase of 48 additional Typhoons proceeds, the Saudi fleet could grow to 120 aircraft.
