BAE Systems announced that after the APKWS laser‑guided rocket kit was fielded on the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon, other operators of the aircraft have shown strong interest in acquiring the capability. The APKWS kit adds a laser‑guidance module to 70‑mm Hydra‑70 rockets, turning them into precise, low‑cost munitions, especially effective against drones and other low‑value targets compared with expensive air‑to‑air missiles. With the growing drone threat in modern conflicts, many air forces are looking for ways to neutralise cheap targets without expending high‑cost missiles, and an APKWS‑equipped Eurofighter can carry many guided rockets for swarm‑drone defence. Current Eurofighter Typhoon users include Germany, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Austria, and they may adopt the system in the future.
