Saudi Arabia has launched the first Avante‑2200 class corvette, named "Al‑Madina," as part of the second phase of its naval modernization program known as "Al‑Sarwat." Built by Spain's Navantia, the vessel is the first of three new ships, with the others to be delivered as "Neom" and "Al‑Ula." After hull completion, the corvette will undergo system installation, harbor trials and sea tests, with combat system integration also taking place in Saudi Arabia alongside the Saudi Military Industries (SAMI). The 2,500‑ton, 98.9‑metre ship can reach 25 knots, carries a crew of 92, and is equipped with a Leonardo 76 mm gun, an Oerlikon 35 mm gun, Harpoon Block 2 anti‑ship missiles, ESSM vertical launch cells, and other weapon systems.
