At the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition, French subsidiary of KNDS presented the Capinte, a next‑generation tank. KNDS positions the Capinte as a replacement for the French Leclerc and as part of the MGCS programme, continuing development that began under the EMBT project in 2018. The vehicle retains the standard three‑crew layout in a protected hull and adds an unmanned turret with an autoloader. Its chassis and power‑train are derived from the German Leopard 2, reflecting Franco‑German cooperation. The tank is equipped with the new Ascalon gun, initially a 120 mm NATO‑compatible barrel that can be quickly swapped for a 140 mm version delivering 50 percent more energy, capable of defeating modern armour.
