The U.S. Army and Navy have successfully tested a new laser system capable of simultaneously wirelessly transmitting energy and engaging hostile drones. In the trial, the laser switched from power‑transfer mode to anti‑drone mode and back without any shutdown or hardware changes. The demonstration was conducted under harsh weather conditions, including high winds and heavy snowfall near "white‑out" levels, to assess performance in realistic battlefield environments. Officials said the technology could later reduce frontline units’ reliance on generators and fuel convoys while providing an integrated drone‑defense capability.
