After the fall of Saddam's regime, the Iraqi Air Force acquired 16 UH‑1H Huey helicopters from Jordan to rebuild its fleet. With U.S. support, the aircraft were refurbished and upgraded to the Huey‑2 standard and entered service in 2007. Iraq also requested an additional 16 Huey‑2 helicopters from U.S. Army stockpiles, but the plan was cancelled due to rising costs.
