German defense contractor Diehl Defence is in talks with Ukraine's Fire Point to set up a production line for the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile in Germany. If realized, it would be the first time a strategic offensive weapon of Ukrainian origin is manufactured on NATO soil.

The FP-5 is a ground‑launched cruise missile with a 3,000‑km range and a 1,150‑kg warhead, designed for low‑cost mass production at an estimated price of $500,000, far cheaper than the $3.6 million Tomahawk. Diehl may integrate its advanced multi‑spectral seekers to improve accuracy against electronic warfare and satellite jamming.

Weighing six tonnes at launch, the missile can cruise at 650‑700 km/h with a top speed of 950 km/h, targeting strategic sites such as industrial complexes, ammunition depots, weapons factories, command centres and energy infrastructure. German interest grows as European nations seek independent long‑range strike capabilities and reduced reliance on U.S. systems.
