Soldiers assigned to the 1st Squadron, 124th Cavalry Regiment of the Texas National Guard took part in the "Spur Ride" ceremony at Fort Hood, Texas, on June 10, 2026. The four‑day event challenges volunteers before they are accepted into the Order of the Spur, a historic cavalry tradition dating back to medieval knights who earned golden spurs for bravery. Participants undergo rigorous tests of combat skills, physical endurance, navigation and military knowledge, after which successful candidates become official members of the Order and have a metal spur affixed to their boots.
