Former President Donald Trump made a series of statements in 2024 asserting that the United States is not affected by Middle Eastern oil. On March 9 he said the country has abundant oil and gas supplies far beyond its needs. On April 1 he claimed the US is now completely independent of the Middle East and does not need its oil. On June 17 he warned that continued heavy bombing of Iran would deplete US reserves in about four weeks.
