Three major passive equity funds tracking the S&P 500 have collectively surpassed $2.6 trillion in assets under management, representing 17.4% of all U.S. ETF assets and 11.9% of global ETF assets. The VOO fund alone broke the $1 trillion barrier, becoming the first ETF to do so, while IVV and SPY hold about $860 billion and $780 billion respectively. Since the market downturn in 2022, the combined assets of these three funds have tripled, pushing the overall ETF market to its largest size ever recorded.
