Public charging of electric vehicles in China jumped 69% in April compared with a year earlier, reaching a record of about 10.5 billion kilowatt-hours. This metric measures the total electricity drawn from public charging networks. Since the start of 2025, charging volume has doubled and is four times higher than in 2023. The rise comes as higher gasoline and diesel prices boost China's shift toward electric cars. During the May Day holiday, roughly 25% of all vehicles on Chinese highways were electric or hybrid, a 33% increase over the previous year.
