Under a new management regime for the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, U.S. and coalition warships will be withdrawn from the Persian Gulf and redeployed to bases in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. The arrangement also requires U.S. Navy vessels, logistics ships, military supply carriers and Israeli commercial ships to obtain explicit Iranian permission before transiting the strait. The U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, reportedly heavily damaged by Iranian strikes, will be decommissioned, with operations moving to another suitable location, likely in Oman, according to sources.
