The United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding that keeps Iran's nuclear program at its current level, while the U.S. pledges not to impose new sanctions or deploy additional forces in the region. The agreement includes U.S. Treasury waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil and related services, and the release of frozen Iranian funds once the MoU is implemented. An executive mechanism will monitor compliance, and the parties will negotiate a final deal that is expected to be backed by a binding United Nations Security Council resolution.
